Telcroft Deploys Fuzion Powered Wi-Fi at Delta State University in Nigeria

Telcroft Technologies Ltd has been providing WiFi-as-a-Service (WaaS) connectivity to the students and staff of Delta State University, Abraka, Nigeria, for several years. The project — branded Campus Connect — established a central Network Operations Centre, and a multi-campus wireless network built on Cambium Networks microwave radios for distribution and Wi-Fi access points in hostels, lecture halls, and faculty buildings.

However, a network expansion encountered a major challenge — unreliable grid power. Frequent outages and unstable supply at remote sites affected uptime of base stations, outdoor Wi-Fi access points and microwave radios. Diesel generators proved unsustainable due to high fuel costs and logistical difficulties. Telcroft needed an off-grid power solution that was reliable, scalable, and optimized for telecom equipment in the Nigerian climate.

Telcroft, with guidance from Winncom Technologies, chose the FTP-300 from Fuzion to solve the problem.

The FTP-300 is an integrated solar charged switch with 300 Wh power backup and selectable Power over Ethernet outputs designed for outdoor network deployments. The compact product combines MPPT solar charge controllers, deep-cycle lithium-ion batteries, and smart power monitoring via an online dashboard, making it ideal for outdoor Wi-Fi deployments.

The complete Wi-Fi hotspots are deployed on a single pole and spread throughout the campus ensure users of the network have ubiqutous access. The FTP-300 was a perfect fit for the Wifi-as-a-Service Connectivity Project at Delta State University.
